FIELD: lining of heat assemblies in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy for oxygen converts, out-of-furnace steel treatment setups, electric melting furnaces and other thermal assemblies. SUBSTANCE: method of manufacturing high- density carbon-containing refractory based on periclas and/or alumina, and/or spinel comprises preparing mold by feeding it in stages and stirring components, namely: powdery filler and 2/3 or 3/4 part of liquid organic binder; 2/3-3/4 part of powdery phenol binder, dispersed powdery filer and 2/3-3/4 part of graphite, remaining 1/4-1/3 part of liquid organic binder, remaining 1/4-1/3 part of graphite to prepare granular mixture with angle of slope of not more than 35o, and heat treating said products. Powdery filler with apparent density of at least 3.0 g/cubic cm is used and liquid organic binder with dynamic viscosity from 3000 to 4500 Pa.s is used. EFFECT: greater wear resistance of carbon-containing refractories due to increased apparent density and decreased yield of rejects when molding and heat treating products greater efficiency of pressing equipment and longer service life of pressing equipment. 2 cl, 3 tbl
