FIELD: wind-power engineering; vertical-shaft windmills. SUBSTANCE: windmill has structural frame with vertical shaft mounted in journal bearing assemblies and kinematically coupled with mechanical energy users, wind wheel rigidly fixed on shaft, hollow guide-vane mechanism mounted around wind wheel on shaft for rotating and setting against wind whose vertical walls form confusion-diffusion channel with one of walls bent down inside mechanism; air flow control device. Novelty is that wind wheel is hollow structure made of top and bottom horizontal disks rigidly fixed on shaft with blades uniformly fixed over their periphery and between these disks at angle of 0 to 180 deg. relative to wind wheel radius; hollow guide-vane mechanism has vertical internal partition forming additional confusion-diffusion channel between inlet and outlet of air stream; in center its sector having aperture angle of 180 deg. and radius greater than and comparable with wind wheel radius embraces wind wheel; external vertical wall abutting against inner longitudinal partition is arched outside; regulating device is, essentially, centrifugal governor engageable with hollow guide-vane mechanism to respond to inadmissible angular velocity of wind wheel.
