FIELD: radiolocation. SUBSTANCE: emitted pulse is received, amplified and detected and simultaneously width of angular spectrum of waves scattered by medium and rate of expansion of this spectrum is measured. Distance to radiation source is determined by relation of quadrupled known velocity of propagation of oscillations in medium to product of measured width of angular spectrum of waves scattered by medium by measured rate of expansion of this spectrum by formula where D is range to radiation source; c is known velocity of propagation of oscillations in medium; γ is measured width of angular spectrum of waves scattered by medium; V is measured rate of expansion of angular spectrum. Passive range-only radar ensuring measurement of range in correspondence with specified method has antenna with three outputs and three identical radiation patterns of which first and third radiation patterns are turned in symmetry relative to second center radiation pattern by value of angle diversity, three logarithmic receivers each being connected to proper output of antenna, four subtracters, two dividers, two squarers, square-root calculator, differentiator and multiplier. First subtracter is placed between outputs of first and second logarithmic receivers and second subtracter is inserted between outputs of second and third logarithmic receivers. Outputs of first and second subtracters are connected to inputs of third subtracter whose output is linked to second input of divider. Input of value of angle diversity of radiation patterns is connected via first squarer to first input of first divider whose output is linked to first input of fourth subtracter. Input of value of width of radiation pattern is connected via second squarer to second input of fourth subtracter whose output is linked via square-root calculator to first input of multiplier and to input of differentiator. Output of differentiator is connected to second input of multiplier whose output is linked to second input of second divider. Input of value of propagation of radio waves is connected to first input of second divider whose output is linked to indicator. EFFECT: fast response, actual single-position attitude and possibility of evaluation of range to radiation source of pulse-modulated oscillations in scattered media at great ranges considerably exceeding limits of nearest zone of receiving hardware where quasi-single-position measurements of range based on curvature of wave front appear to be unacceptable. 2 cl, 2 dwg
