FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: Martin furnace has dome and inclined walls defining working space. Inclined walls are joined to hearth. Gas distributing collectors positioned in hearth are adapted for supplying gas into working space through porous refractory material positioned in hearth in the vicinity of collectors and composed of 2-10 mm sized fractions. Refractory material is made in the form of blocks with inclined side walls. Each block has two gas distributing channels spaced one from the other by distance of 2,000-2,650 mm. Angle between side wall of each block and side wall of dome in cross section is within the range of 37-65 deg, and angle between these walls in longitudinal section is within the range of 35-67 deg. EFFECT: increased steelmaking efficiency and increased service life of furnace. 3 cl, 3 dwg
