FIELD: mechanical engineering; methods of operation of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: method comes to compression of fresh charge, delivery of charge into preliminarily processing chamber, passing of working mixture into working chamber and expansion space, converting of working mixture and expansion of reaction products for executing useful work. Cold plasma generator of space-and-time principle of operation is used as preliminarily processing chamber with possibility of forming of formation of nonequilibrium plasma capable of recombination at detonating velocities. Plasma from plasma generator is passed into expansion space with possibility of self-ignition in recurrent portions in period of one expansion cycle. Combustion is effected under conditions of volumetric explosion at detonating velocities. Plasma portions delivery process is regulated by cycle repetition frequency proportionally to flow rate of mixture delivered into plasma generator. EFFECT: reduced fuel consumption owing to increased thermodynamic efficiency of engine thermodynamic cycle. 3 cl, 10 dwg
