FIELD: measurement technology; operational express control of petroleum product film thickness in treating facilities of inland waters, port water areas, etc. SUBSTANCE: method includes radiation treatment of surface by optical radiation, change of radiation wave length, recording of signal reflected from surface followed by analysis of dependence of intensity of reflected signal versus wave length characterizing the film thickness; dependence of intensity of reflected signal versus length of wave is approximated by sinusoid; parameters of this approximation are calculated and thickness of film is found by period of approximating sinusoid. EFFECT: possibility of measuring thickness of thin films when number of extreme becomes lesser than two depending on intensity of reflected radiation versus wave length. 2 dwg
