FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying refrigerant to cover via pipelines. Air-and-water mixture used as refrigerant is produced by atomization of water flow by compressed air at ratio of 0.1-5 kg of water per 1 kg of air which allows cover cooling to be intensified. Air-and-water mixture is supplied through pipelines at flow rate of 15-80 m/s providing uniformity of mixture. Apparatus has refrigerant production source and pipeline for supplying refrigerant to cover. Refrigerant production source has water nozzle and air nozzle axially aligned one with the other and provided with water and compressed air channels, diffuser and mixing cavity. Air nozzle has cylindrical neck embracing water nozzle cylindrical tip.
