FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to conversion equipment used on electric rolling stock supplied with power from A C contact network. Method is realized with the use of gear made of one transformer, multizonal converter on controllable rectifier tubes and load. Transformer has primary winding connected to source of supply voltage and secondary winding manufactured in the form of several sections connected in series with leads-out from each section. Number of sections equals number of regulation zones. Converter is composed of several networks, each containing pair of rectifier tubes connected in series and linked with extreme points between D C buses of load in parallel and with middle points to proper leads-out of secondary winding of transformer. During operation in any of m regulation zones voltage control pulses at start of every half-period are fed with preset enabling angle not only to corresponding rectifier tube of first zone and pair of rectifier tubes of m-1 zone but to proper pair of rectifier tubes in first zone and to all rectifier tubes in second, third and so on to m-2 regulation zones.
