FIELD: power engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed method provides for delivery of fuel at high pressure into high-head fuel accumulator 1 whose pressure is regulated by hydraulic valve 9. Balance of amounts of fuel can be calculated by measuring amount of fuel delivered into fuel accumulator 1 and amounts of fuel taken off from accumulator to regulate fuel pressure, including excess amounts of fuel formed at definite conditions in process of fuel regulation by fuel injection device. This balance calculated by control unit 7, 7a, 18, 19 can be used for comparing calculated or preset amounts of fuel with actual injected or involuntarily flowing out amounts of fuel and, if differences in amounts are considerable, control unit can act onto fuel injection device or activate signaling device. Invention provides possibility of detection of failures in high-pressure system and timely action onto fuel injection device to prevent breakdowns. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of operation. 8 cl, 1 dwg
