FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; method of realization of thermodynamic cycles in internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed method comes to the following: air is compressed in internal combustion engine, heat is supplied at more than one stage, gases, thus formed, are expanded and useful work is done. Finishing stage of heat supply is carried out at constant temperature I combustion with provision of expansion volume of working medium in value greater than compression volume, thus creating pressure in cylinder at end of expansion process equal to pressure in volume into which gases are forced out, and liquid or gas friction is provided between piston and cylinder with increase of speed of piston or working medium which plays the part of piston. To provide transmission of mechanical work from one working medium in first stage of expansion to other working medium and to return mechanical work use is made of mechanical energy accumulator which can be made in form of free piston-shutoff separating main working medium in engine cylinder from working medium in cylinder of accumulator.
