FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: 2-alkyl- and phenyl-5,10-dihydrophenazines having general formula 1: (I), in which R denotes H or groups (CH₃)₃C-;C₂H₅(CH₃)₂C-;CH₃(C₂H₅)₂C-, cyclo-C₆H₁₁, or phenyl, are prepared by heating mixture of o-phenylenediamine and corresponding alkylpyrocatechol or 2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene. Method is distinguished by that mixture with molar ratio of components 1:1 is heated at 55-105 C until sublimation of reaction products ceases. EFFECT: simplified procedure, reduced expenses on initial compounds, increased reaction rate and yield of products, and facilitated process control. 2 tbl
