FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of producing betulinol diacetate from birch bark (outer layer of birch bark). Betulinol diacetate (C34H54O4) is a biologically active substance which has anti-tumour activity, hepatoprotector, hypolipidemic and choleretic action and is of great interest in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The method involves preactivation of birch bark with water vapour at temperature 180-240°C for 60-300 s, followed by acetylation with acetic aid while heating.
EFFECT: high output of betulin diacetate from birch bark and shorter process for acetylation of birch bark.
