FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; ignition systems. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method current pulse burst limited in duration is formed in primary winding of ignition coil. First pulse jumps spark gap and causes beginning of oscillatory process creating multiple-pulse duty. Subsequent pulses cause additional activation of electric discharge and more complete combustion and fuel-air mixture. These pulses are formed at frequency of self-excited oscillation process at time intervals when direction of current in primary winding caused by self- excited oscillation process coincides with direction of current from supply source. Device for implementing the method has supply source, control signal shaper, ignition coil, spark gap, capacitor and switch-generator with feedback circuit providing self-excited oscillation process. To increase energy of spark, ignition coil is supplied from single-pulse step-up supply converter when second and subsequent pulses are formed.
