FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: power is supplied to the primary winding of an ignition coil and at least one current pulse with a given amplitude is shaped in the winding. Voltage is set so that time for increasing of each current puls in the primary winding is significantly lesser than a time for burning of a charge of working mixture before a given amplitude is reached. A moment of the beginning of the first pulse of current is in coincident with a moment of feeding starting ignition pulse. A moment of the beginning of shaping of each successive current pulse is coincident with a moment of end of the high voltage pulse in the secondary winding that is exited by previous current pulse in the primary winding. Shaping of each current pulse is completed by interrupting in moment of reaching given current amplitude and limiting rate of changing current at interruption. The apparatus has ignition coil 1, stepping up voltage converter 4, spark plug 6, electronic switch 7 provided with controlled pulse generator 8 as a control unit, and capacitor 9 providing resonance in the primary winding of the ignition coil. EFFECT: enhanced reliability. 3 cl, 3 dwg
