FIELD: optical engineering. SUBSTANCE: device enables one to build a pair of images usable in stereophotography and photogrammetry and to control image superposition by automatically tuning convergence of a pair of devices bringing the images together. The device has adapter unit having a set of mirrors placed in front of camera objective. Two outer mirrors are turned outwards along the optical axis of the objective. The centers of the outer mirrors are set with some predefined distance between each other. The outer mirrors convergence is tuned by rotating them in synchronous way about their middle lines using matching mechanism. The method involves using the device for determining object position in three-dimensional space. EFFECT: maximum left and right image overlapping; simplified design structure. 43 cl, 16 dwg
