METHOD FOR PROCESSING WASTE LINING OF ALUMINIUM CELLS Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely production of aluminum and alumina. SUBSTANCE: method is designed for processing waste brick lining of demounted aluminum cells by neutralizing soluble fluorides, cyanides; by extraction of aluminum compounds, alkali metal compounds and rationally using carbon for enhancing ecology of environment. Method comprises steps of introducing waste lining of aluminum cells including at least 30% of disintegrated carbon mixed with limestone as additive to alumina-soda-limestone containing pulp of alumina production achieved agglomeration limit; subjecting mass to heat treatment in agglomeration furnace for producing baked mass-cake; taking above mentioned additive in quantity 1-20 mass %; subjecting cake to hydrochemical treatment according to well known processes of alumina production in order to extract oxides of aluminum and alkali metals in the form of alumina, soda, potash. Solid slime remained after hydrochemical treatment is fed in depending upon its content to production of cement, silicate brick (belite slime) or road building.
