FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, particularly, technology of electrolytic production of nonferrous metals and protection of environment from effect of harmful impurities in production of nonferrous metals, precisely, technology of processing of used aluminum cell lining containing in noticeable amount of toxic sodium cyanide. SUBSTANCE: method of utilization of retired lining includes its grinding and processing with addition of reagent in form of iron salt. The latter is used in form of bivalent compound introduced into grinding process in amount of 0.05- 025 mole per mole of free cyanide. In this case, reagent is introduced in form of 5-35% solution. Grinding is carried out in two stages with material moisture content of 15-30 and 2-6%, respectively. Added during grinding is 3-12% of lime. EFFECT: excluded toxic and corrosive reagents, and combined neutralization process with other operations of lining processing. 4 cl, 4 tbl
