FIELD: preparation of materials for application onto surface to prevent or reduce adhesion of ice, mist or water thereon for application of materials on surfaces to prevent icing or thawing. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing antiicing agent based on mixture of metal chlorides and subsequently grinding it. Prior to being ground, mixture of chlorides is melted at temperatures of 680-800 C till homogenous composition is attained, and cooled. Mixture of metal chlorides includes magnesium production waste, e.g. spent electrolyte resulting from electrolysis of chloromagnesium stock and/or stime-electrolyte mixture resulting from electrolysis. Content of spent electrolyte and slime-electrolyte mixture is maintained at 1:(0.4-0.6)ratio. Magnesium production waste is ground by crushing mixture followed by screening and sizing to isolate 1-3 mm fraction as antiicing agent. EFFECT: high-quality agent that controls efficiently sleet on automobile roads, said agent is readily available, inexpensive, is not in short supply, has low consumption and high melting power, reduced amount of agent being discharged, and better ecological situation. 7 cl
