PROCESS OF WINNING OF MAGNESIUM AND CHLORINE, PRODUCTION LINE FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATIONS AND ITS UNITS Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2128730 C1

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, electrolytic winning of magnesium and chlorine. SUBSTANCE: process of winning of magnesium and chlorine in production line involves stage of preparation of starting material in aggregate made up of chamber for mixing starting material with circulating electrolyte, settling chamber and chamber for treatment of slime-electrolyte mixture. Then enriched electrolyte goes to aggregate for electrochemical cleaning composed of electrochemical cleaning chamber where electrolyte is cleaned from impurities and electrolysis chamber. Chambers are separated by partition with flow windows. Later electrolyte goes through stage of electrolytic decomposition into aggregates of electrolytic decomposition of starting material where chlorine and magnesium are won. Process of electrolytic decomposition of starting material is conducted under leak-proof conditions with gradual rise of temperature. Then electrolyte with magnesium is fed into aggregate for separation of electrolyte from magnesium including three chambers: separation chamber, clarified electrolyte chamber and chamber for preliminary enrichment of electrolyte separated by partitions with flow windows. Later electrolyte is divided into two streams: one is directed for preparation of starting material, the other one is used in re-winning of magnesium chloride in special aggregates. Last aggregate in stream of flow of electrolyte is fitted with chamber for waste electrolyte. Aggregates are interconnected by connection and overflow conduits to pipe circulating electrolyte. EFFECT: creation of directed circulation of electrolyte in production line, increased degree of cleaning of electrolyte from impurities and stabilization of temperature conditions in aggregates of production line which results in long run in enhanced current efficiency. 47 cl, 7 dwg
