FIELD: electrolytic production of magnesium. SUBSTANCE: process of shut-down of electrolyzer includes following operations: removal of magnesium from knock-down cell, disconnection of electrolyzer from D C network, loading of solid magnesium chloride in the amount of 1-3% of volume of electrlolyte in electrolyzer, removal of skull from hearth of electrolyzer, removal of electrolyte from electrolyzer to its residual content on hearth amounting to 1-5% of total volume of electrolyte in electrolyzer, additional pouring of molten carnallite, sealing of systems of cathode and anode suction, natural cooling of electrolyzer to temperature below 100 C with rate of 5-10 C per hour, creation of constant level of humidity and its keeping in the course of all time of electrolyzer shut-down. EFFECT: possibility of shut-down of electrolyzer for long period, reduced consumption of electric energy. 2 cl
