FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely electrolytic production of magnesium and chlorine from chlorine-magnesium raw material.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises steps of charging chlorine- magnesium raw material into electrolyzer; sealing electrolytic and built-up cells; electrolytic decomposition of raw material by magnesium and chlorine; removing chlorine containing and sanitary - engineering gases out of electrolytic cells when sanitary - engineering suction is cut-off; periodically extracting slime and measuring temperature in upper and lower layers of electrolyte; starting slime extraction when temperature difference between upper and lower layers of electrolyte achieves 5 - 20°C and going on such procedure at depressurization of built-up cell when sanitary - engineering suction is turned on; measuring temperature in upper layer of electrolyte in electrolytic cells near cathode; measuring temperature of lower layers of electrolyte in built-up cell near bottom.
EFFECT: lowered passivation of cathode, reduced slime generation in built-up cell, enhanced labor conditions, lowered gas content in shop.
