SUBSTANCE: ion source that may be found useful for space vehicles or industrial operation such as vacuum evaporation of coatings has main annular ionizing and accelerating channel whose rear end is open and whose at least internal wall is made of electricity conducting material. Shielding rings brought to potential much higher than that of anode function as extensions of annular channel on its rear end. In addition, ion source has hollow cathode, means for feeding ionizing gas connected to cathode and anode, means for anode polarization, and means for building up magnetic field in main annular channel.
