FIELD: analytical methods in petroleum industry. SUBSTANCE: sample is placed in measuring pipette, into which diethylene glycol is then added. Resulting mixture is thoroughly stirred and then settled. Separated diethylene glycol is pumped off lower layer and powered into measuring optical cuvette. Optical density of diethylene glycol water extract in cuvette is measured on spectrophotometer or photometer against initial diethylene glycol. From measured optical density, concentration of extracted water is calculated by the aid of Bouguerre low and from it searched water level in sample is found. EFFECT: increased sensitivity and accuracy of measurements.
