FIELD: ion beam neutralization on gaseous bodies in plasma accelerators; process plasma sources. SUBSTANCE: compensating cathode has emission unit 1, starting electrode 2, and ceramic ring 3; emission unit has flange 4 mounting case 5; ceramic ring has radial ridge 6 with drilling. Starting electrode has radial ridge 8 with longitudinal opening receiving electrical conductor of power system 10. Part of outer surface 11 of case 5 is made in the form of parallelepiped one of whose side surfaces is provided with fastening holes 13, Center line 14 of parallelepiped-shaped part of case is offset relative to longitudinal axis of compensating cathode 15; ridge 16 has longitudinal through hole 17 to accommodate electrical conductor of power system. Starting electrode may incorporate screen around radial ridge of ceramic ring mounted in a spaced relation to this ridge. Starting electrode and case may be joined to ceramic ring so that gaps are formed between butt ends of ceramic-ring radial ridge and opposing butt ends of case walls and starting electrode.
