FIELD: preparation of metallurgical raw materials in ferrous metallurgy, particularly, production of oxidized pellets designed for their further prereduction in shaft furnace. SUBSTANCE: method includes formation of nucleus bot containing fluxing additive and application of coating from CaO and/or MgO-containing materials. Coating is applied directly before charging onto conveyer roasting machine in amount governed by content of iron in iron-ore concentrate from which nucleus is formed whose weight is equal to 0.3-0.8% of green pellet weight and with production of surface layer with basicity of 1.0-2.5 after its roasting to obtain pellets with shell preventing loosening and breakage of pellets in upper part of reducing unit, and preventing sticking of pellets in intensive formation of metallic iron in middle and lower horizons of furnace shaft.
