FIELD: railway transport; railway car and locomotive testing facilities. SUBSTANCE: device has light emitters orientated in opposite directions from longitudinal axis of rail track. Light detectors are arranged before light emitters in direction of movement. Each light detector is made in the form of bar of N photocells arranged at fixed step. Right- and left-hand bars are installed in parallel and symmetrically relative to longitudinal axis of rail gauge in zone of illumination by left- and right-hand light emitters, respectively. Processing unit and recorder are also provided. Distance between the first photocells of main and additional sets in direction of movement does not exceed length of shadow projection of wheel chord with respect to level of scanning on line of arrangement of light detector bars. Distance between last photocells in direction of movement of main and additional sets is not less than length of shadow projection of wheel chord with respect to level of scanning on line of arrangement of light detector bars. Processing unit consists of two counters of difference of dim-out photocells, half-adder and synchronizer. EFFECT: reduced measurement errors. 1 dwg
