FIELD: water transport; transportation of heavy off-gage cargoes, for example, reactor compartments of utilized submarines. SUBSTANCE: method is realized on board ship having at least two hulls. Compartment is transported between hulls. For loading and unloading the compartment, ship is brought afloat to transfer sock. Compartment is preliminarily placed on pontoon deck of dock. Ship is oriented relative to compartment which is secured between hulls by means of cargo-hoisting gear. Then dock is slightly sunken, ship is undocked and compartment is transported to protracted underwater storage point where it is unloaded and placed on ground, after which it is remotely freed from grips. The device for the method embodiment is made in the form of ship having at least two interconnected hulls. She is equipped with cargo-hoisting equipment in the form of tractive winches with ropes. Remotely-controlled grip, mainly, spreader is fitted on ends of ropes. Pneumatic fenders are used for fixing the compartment which is provided with buoy rope connected with buoy.
