DIESEL ENGINE EXHAUST GAS CATALYST CONVERTER Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering; diesel engines; exhaust systems. SUBSTANCE: catalyst converter has cylindrical housing with outer and inner walls with heat insulation layer placed between walls, diffuser, ring with NiCr spiral installed in ring and electrically connected with electronic control unit, concentrate shield cluster, metal grids to limit amount of catalyst grains filled into converter and compensating element. Diffuser is bolted to main part of housing. Part of housing at end of converter is made in the form of truncated cone tapering in direction of exhaust gas flow. Converter is aimed at improving cleaning of exhaust gases of diesel engine from soot particles by afterburning by means of electrically heated soot filter, reduction of heat losses in converter reaction chamber due to double walls of housing and cluster of concentric heat reflecting shields, reduction of hydrodynamic resistance to passage of exhaust gases through converter due to provision of conical converging tube and diffuser.
