FIELD: treatment of radioactive materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves covering surface to be decontaminated with layer of powdered exothermal mixture, kindling the latter, and removing solid radioactive product of decontamination. Powdered exothermal mixture incorporates reducing agent, oxidizing agent, and mineralizing agent which is usually glass or pearlite. Used as oxidizing agent is vanadium oxide or ferric oxide, or potassium permanganate. Reducing agent incorporates aluminum or silica calcium and, in addition, it may include boron or titanium. EFFECT: enhanced safety; improved quality of end product obtained.
