FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention aims at constructing means for safe storage hydrogen isotopes and moderators of neutrons. Cylindrically-shaped erbium blanks are heated in vacuum to 900 C and saturated with protium to concentration corresponding to hydrogen isotope solution in hydride phase. As the result, ErH1,9. is obtained. After saturation, blanks are cooled to ambient temperature and checked visually. Defectless blanks are selected, heated, and degassed at cca 900 C to concentration corresponding to formation of ErH1,7, which is indicative of hydrogen isotope solution in hydride phase. Product is additionally saturated with deuterium or mixture of hydrogen isotopes to achieve formula ErH1,85-1,9. Yield of defectless parts amounts to 90%. EFFECT: reduced concentration of expensive hydrogen isotopes (D and T) in parts.
