FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: method consists in bringing aluminum hydride to be stored into contact with impregnating chemically active substance at temperature no higher than aluminum hydride decomposition point. Chemically active substance can be air or its chemically active components. When aluminum hydride contains protium, contact is carried out at temperature not superior to 343 K for a period of time t defined by following expression: e-17,1+5445/Г≤ t ≤ e-14,1+6386/Т wherein t is contact time, h; and T temperature, Kelvin degrees. When aluminum hydride contains deuterium, contact is carried out at temperature not superior to 368 K for a period of time t defined by expression: e-20,6+7240/Г≤ t ≤ e-5,5+4010/Т. Thermal stability of aluminum hydride is thereby raised by 1.05 to 2.5 times as compared to initial specimens. EFFECT: increased thermal stability, simplified treatment technology, and avoided possibility of pollution of aluminum hydride with gaseous impurities. 2 cl, 3 dwg
