FIELD: metallurgy, namely rolled stock production, possibly preparation of rolling rolls for cold rolling of thin steel sheets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preliminarily grinding rolling roll until predetermined roughness degree of its surface; partially immersing roll into working liquid and realizing cathode treatment of roll surface in aqueous solution of chromate at rotating roll at electric current density equal to 80-120A/sq. dm; using chrome containing aqueous solution including (g/cub.dm): Cr(NO3)2 - (250-290); liquid glass - (40-50); detergent (80-100) (Emulsol, Renol 1, Renol TT). Invention provides increased hardness of roll surface up to 108 Sh during decreased treatment time period.
