FIELD: sorption technics. SUBSTANCE: modified activated carbon for cleaning air and liquid media is prepared by impregnating coals with summary pore volume 0.4-1.8 cu.cm/g with water or 1-4% hydrochloric acid solution observing ratio of summary volume of coal and water or acid solution equal to 1: (0.7-1.0), after which coals are treated with 9-15% solution of thermoreactive resin in furfurol at coal-to-solution weight ratio 1:(0.35-0.68), aged to achieve looseness, subjected to heat treatment with temperature raise rate 450-900 C/h to temperature 700-900 C, and kept at this temperature for 0.2-0.5 h. EFFECT: increased adsorption capacity and strength. 1 tbl, 7 ex
