FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: carbonizer contains carbon-containing components and metal cuttings, the former being composed of at least two components from the group including man-made graphite, cast graphite, coal coke dust, and charcoal, while components are taken at weight ratio of metal cuttings to other components equal to 2:1:1 and content of cuttings constitutes no more than 50% of the total volume of mass. In another embodiment of invention, carbonizer contains carbon-containing components and binding agent, the former being composed of man-made graphite and one of components from the group including cast graphite, coal coke dust, and charcoal, while components are taken in equal amounts. Man-made graphite can also be combined with two other carbon-containing components from the above-indicated group at weight ratio 1:1:2 (plus binder). And at last, carbon- containing components (with metal cuttings) can be composed of coal coke dust and at least one of components from the group including cast graphite and charcoal in equal amounts. Binding agent utilized can be lime milk or liquid glass in amounts 2 to 6 % based on the total volume of mass.
