FIELD: detonation devices for application of coating on workpiece for industrial use. SUBSTANCE: the device has a combustion chamber having at least one labyrinth located in the side walls for destruction of elementary sections diffracted from the detonation wave front, and for communication with the fuel and oxygen feed branch pipes. The combustion chamber may consist at least of two concentric cylinders, being in a concentric contact with each other and having a great number of holes selectively matched with one another. The method for prevention of backfire consists in formation of a detonation wave front inside the combustion chamber, admission of part of the front to the labyrinth and collision with the labyrinth walls. The labyrinth system provides for feeding of a storage of fuel to the combustion chamber and prevents movement of the detonation wave front to the fuel source by destruction of the part of the detonation wave front that is delivered to the labyrinth. EFFECT: enhanced safety of gas feed, enhanced reliability and capacity of the process of application of the detonation coating. 8 cl, 9 dwg
