FIELD: heat treatment, possibly water-air quenching of large-size heavy horizontally arranged cylindrical articles. SUBSTANCE: installation includes chamber with extensible cover for charging/discharging forgings. In said chamber are arranged: mechanism for rotating forging, stoppers, devices for spraying water-air mixture and system for removing vapors. Device for spraying water-air mixture includes manifolds for drop sprinkling having tubes with centrifugal jets and manifolds for water-air sprinkling having mixers and variable cross section aperture tubes arranged on two jointly mounted combs. Each comb includes levers placed at both sides of mechanism for rotating forging. Mean lever of comb passes through eye and it is jointly mounted on housing of pneumatic cylinder. Rod of said cylinder through turnbuckle (used for regulating comb position relative to forging ) is secured to support placed on foundation of installation. Manifolds for water- air sprinkling are arranged in staggered fashion on combs. EFFECT: increased cooling rate of outer part of forging, uniform metal structure along the whole cross section of quenched forging. 2 cl, 3 dwg
