POLYMERIC DISPERSION WITH HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT (OPTIONS), TIGHTENING AND SEALING COMPOSITION (OPTIONS), METHOD FOR PREPARING DISPERSION OF POLYMER PARTICLES WITH HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT AND DISPERSION OF POLYMER PARTICLES Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

Abstract RU 2177013 C2

FIELD: polymerization processes. SUBSTANCE: invention provides a method for polymerization preferably of one ore more acrylate and/or vinyl acetate monomers in presence of latex leading to formation of dispersion of polymer particles with high solids content and unusually low viscosity. Much greater amounts of supplementary monomers can be present in nonspherically-shaped big particles. Some initial latex particles are preserved during polymerization thereby increasing content of solids and reducing viscosity owing to their intrusion into interspaces between big particles. Total content of solid polymeric material in polymers can be easily changed from 77% to 92 or more % (technical task), which exceeds contents achieved in any aqueous polymerization processes earlier reported. Viscosity at very high contents of solids causes pasty consistence, however materials still rest stable on storage and further treatment with no separation of dispersion into agglomerated polymer portion and released water. Dispersions are applied for manufacturing hermetics, membranes, etc. both with additives and in absence of the latter. Preferred application are water-based acrylate seals. These seals possess low shrinkage caused by high content of solids and thixotropy of dispersion. EFFECT: improved performance characteristics of dispersion. 38 cl, 1 dwg, 8 tbl, 8 ex
