FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method may be used for production of gray cast iron of various grades on basis of single initial melt with low content of carbon and silicon. The method includes smelting of initial melt with content of carbon and silicon of 0.86-0.99 and 0.61-0.90 wt.%, respectively, in ready cast iron; treatment of melt with complex additive in one or several ladles in total amount of 0.1-0.4 wt.% of total weight of treated metal and graphitizing inoculants based on silicon in casting ladle. EFFECT: higher mechanical properties of thin-walled (5-50 mm) castings homogeneous in section under conditions of wide range temperatures of smelted cast iron with production of cast iron of various grades from basic melt of the same composition. 2 tbl
