FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: in the method, the iron is discharged from the melting unit into the ladle and fed into the ladle of the modifier during the casting process. As a modifier, a complex mixture is used in the amount of 0.15-0.5% of the mass of the iron melt, consisting of carbon-containing and carbide-silicon materials, and as a carbide-silicon material the complex mixture contains silicon carbide with a SiC content of 70-99 wt % in an amount of not less than 65 wt %, and as carbon-containing material - graphite is artificial with a sulfur content of less than 0.05% in an amount not exceeding 35 wt %.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the stability of the quality of castings and their mechanical properties, to reduce chill and hardness of castings from cast iron, while reducing the cost of secondary iron treatment, and also to increase the vitality of the modifying effect and the overall graphitizing ability of the modifier.
