FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly treatment of reaction mixtures resulting from oxidation of cyclohexane into adipic acid. SUBSTANCE: cyclohexane is oxidized into adipic acid with atmospheric oxygen in organic solvent and in the presence of catalyst. Reaction mixture formed after decantation of aqueous phase is distilled off to separate distillate containing at least part of highly volatile compounds such as unreacted cyclohexane, solvent, cyclohexanone, cyclohexanol, cyclohexyl esters, lactones, water and distillation residue containing the resulting diacids and catalyst. Water is then added to distillation residue to give aqueous solution, extraction is carried out using organic solvent and, adipic acid is crystallized from aqueous solution of distillation residue.
