FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing polyether substantially free from transition metals on polyoxyalkylene having functional end hydroxy groups by oxyalkylation containing one or more substituted hydrogen atoms of initiator molecules being oxyalkylated by one or more alkylene oxide and polymerization in the presence of complex double metal cyanide oxyalkylation catalyst followed by regeneration of polyether substantially free from transition metals based on polyoxyalkylene having functional end hydroxy groups; said catalyst has alkylene oxide polymerization rate being determined relative to propylene oxide oxypropylation rate of greater or equal to about 5 g of propylene oxide/min at 105 C at propylene oxide of 0.68 bar and catalyst content of 100 ppm calculated for weight of polyoxypropylene based polyether where concentration of said double metal cyanide catalyst during said oxyalkylation does not exceed about 15 ppm calculated for weight of said polyoxyalkylene based polyether having functional and hydroxy groups. EFFECT: simplified process. 16 cl, 1 dwg, 8 ex
