FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: pyrolysis tar obtained as ethylene production by-product is subjected to two- step rectification. The first step is carried out at bottom temperature 165-170 C and atmospheric pressure to give C5-C8-hydrocarbon stream. Bottom temperature is then raised to 182-184 C and second C8-C10-hydrocarbon stream is withdrawn at residual pressure 10-15 mm Hg. The first stream is fed into the second stream outlet line at weight ratio to the second stream equal to 8: (1-1.1) to yield stable gasoline component.
