FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: dichroic polarizer has at least one anisotropically absorbing film of oriented molecules of organic substance. Anisotropically absorbing film is characterized by fact that relationships given in formula of invention for principal semi-axes of ellipsoids of imaginary and real parts of anisotropic refractive index in region of at least one of absorption bands of substance across area with linear dimensions not less than length of wave of maximum of at least one absorption band are executed and/or anisotropically absorbing film is characterized by fact that transmission of light by two anisotropically absorbing films with crossed polarization axes does not grow at least in some range of wave lengths with deviation of its propagation direction from normal to plane of polarizer. EFFECT: improved angular characteristics of both single polarizer and of two crossed polarizers, reduced transmission of non-polarized light both by single polarizer and by two parallel polarizers, raised polarization efficiency. 20 cl, 9 dwg
