FIELD: optical systems. SUBSTANCE: polarizer has a supporting structure and at least one double-refraction anisotropically absorbing layer, having at least one refractive index increasing at an increase of the wave-length of light being polarized at least within a certain band of wave- lengths and formed on the basis of at least one water-insoluble, dichroic dye representing a vat dye or pigment. Dye or pigment may be selected from polycyclic compounds, or perinonic dyes, or heterocyclic derivatives of anthrene, or anthraquinone dyes, or indigoing dyes, or azo compounds, or aromatic heterocyclic compounds, or it may be luminescent. Anisotropically absorbing double- refraction layer may have a thickness at which interference extremum, for example, minimum is realized at least for one linearly polarized component. Polarizer may be made as multilayer one. At least one double-refraction anisotropically absorbing layer may consist of several fragments of arbitrary shape differing in color and direction of polarization vector. EFFECT: enhanced resistance to moisture, improved polarization characteristics. 23 cl, 5 dwg
