FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: optical polarizer has birefrigent anisotropically absorbing layer with thickness which realizes interference extremum for at least one linearly polarized light component. Anisotropically absorbing layer has one as minimum refraction index growing with rise of length of wave in some range of lengths of waves. Layer can be produced from low-molecular or polymer liquid crystal or nonliquid crystal substances or their mixtures presenting dichroic dyes or containing them in the capacity of component. Layer can have maximum value of refraction index not less than 1.9 and maximum absorption coefficient not less than 0.1. In addition polarizer can include optically isotropic layer which refraction index is fair or close to one of refraction indices of birefrigent layer or birefrigent layer one of which refraction indices is fair or close to one of refraction indices of birefrigent anisotropically absorbing layer and which second refraction indices differentiate. EFFECT: provision for high polarization characteristics in wide spectral region with usage of more than ten layers. 16 cl, 3 dwg
