FIELD: foamed spacers and method of forming thereof. SUBSTANCE: foamed spacer comprises at least one homogeneously branched ethylene polymer and at least one gas-forming agent. Polymer has density from 0.88 to 0.93 g/cubic cm, molecular weight distribution MW/Mn from 1.5 to 2.5 and index of distribution of short-chain branches of greater than 50%. The resulting spacers are especially suitable for use in sealing containers with foodstuffs and liquids and do not impart flavor and/or odor to packed product; this is especially useful in applications for packing foodstuffs.
