FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: train of optical pulses is entered into optical fiber and recorded with the use of optical reflectometer. Distance to point of fault in optical cable is determined by optical pulses. Pulse sequence is induced in current-conducting circuit of optical cable by way of such connection of generator of probing pulses that point of fault should be located between optical reflectometer and generator of probing pulses. Receiving induction frame connected to oscillograph is moved above cable along path of its laying and oscillograph records location of receiving induction frame by matching readings of optical reflectometer and oscillograph.
