FIELD: metallurgy, namely continuous casting of steel, for example of steel rails. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding metal to mold, drawing ingot out of mold, cooling ingot in secondary cooling zone and reducing ingot in termination portion of ingot crystallization zone; controlling length value of ingot reduction depending upon speed of ingot drawing out. When drawing out speed is increased, length of reduction zone along portion from end of liquid phase of ingot is increased in range (0.5-20.0)%. When temperature of cast steel is grown, length value of reduction zone of ingot is decreased. When drawing out speed consists 0.8-0.9 of maximum speed of ingot drawing out, length value of reduction zone is increased in range (0.5-10)%. When drawing out speed consists 0.9-1.0 of maximum speed of ingot drawing out, length of reduction zone is increased in range (10-20)%. Such process prevents liquation and inner cracking at working rate of casting process, provides uniform structure of blank due to compact core of ingot. EFFECT: enhanced quality of ingot. 2 cl, 2 tbl
