FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: with ingot getting out of crystallizer and drawn at working speed, ingot is reduced in drawing-and-cogging stand. Ingot drawing speed is increased to value equal to 1.05-1.3 of working speed, depending on grade of steel, and cogging is carried out at end of ingot liquid phase on section equal to 10-20% of its length. Cogging of ingot is started after expiration of time equal to 0.1-0.3 of period taken for complete solidification of ingot from moment of increase of drawing speed. invention makes it possible to get ingots of fine-grained structure, to prevent central (axial) liquation and thus improved quality of ingots.
