FIELD: power plants and industrial enterprises; return water cooling. SUBSTANCE: proposed mechanical draft tower has housing with air duct opening made on side surface of housing, water catcher, sprinkler, water distributor with sprinkling nozzles and sprinkling cone pointed upwards, fan connected with air duct opening and enclosed in cylindrical shell coaxial to its axis of rotation and water collector with water outlet branch pipe, all these devices being arranged in tower housing in tiers. Tower has air deflector installed behind plane of end face of cylindrical shell for changing angle f inclination to its longitudinal axis. Craters are made on deflector surface with ratio of crater depth to its diameter h/D=0.05-0.2 where h is crater depth, mm; D is crater diameter, mm. EFFECT: increased capacity of mechanical draft tower owing to increase of turbulence of air flow and its uniform distribution over cross-section of tower. 2 cl, 3 dwg
